<< 1949-50 Minneapolis Lakers | 1951-52 Minneapolis Lakers >>
The 1950-51 NBA saw a reduction in teams from 17 to 11, reverting back to the two-division system from the first season. The Minneapolis Lakers were once again a top tier team, with George Mikan asserting his dominance atop the league.
This would be the Lakers first chance for a three-peat, and they got off to a great start. They went 44-24, which was the league’s best record. However, they were unable to capture their third championship, losing in the Western Division Finals to the Rochester Royals 3-1. It was the first time in the Lakers existence that they did not win the championship.
