<< 1955-56 Minneapolis Lakers | 1957-58 Minneapolis Lakers >>
In 1956-57, the Western Division of the NBA was an absolute mess. The Minneapolis Lakers, St. Louis Hawks, and Fort Wayne Pistons were in a three-way tie for first at 34-38. In two tie-breaker games, the Hawks were awarded the No. 1 seed with the Lakers at second and the Pistons at third.
The Lakers defeated the Pistons in the first round, but would get swept in the divisional finals by the Hawks. In the Finals, the Hawks would lose to the Boston Celtics, who took home the first championship of their franchise’s history.
