The 1967-68 season saw the beginning of an NBA expansion. After nearly a decade of eight or nine teams, this season featured 12 teams with six in each division. This year also had the first full-length 82-game season. The Los Angeles Lakers found themselves another 20 points per game scorer in Archie Clark to try and win their first championship in the City of Angels.
The Lakers went 52-30, earning them the No. 2 seed in the West behind the St. Louis Hawks. They defeated the Chicago Bulls in the first round, and swept the San Francisco Warriors in the divisional finals to reach the NBA Finals once again.
They would be forced to face the Boston Celtics, who were the East’s No. 2 seed, after their revenge win against the Philadelphia 76ers. L.A. would get yet another chance to take down the Celtics, something that had become a theme at the beginning of their rivalry.
The Lakers failed to do so yet again, losing in six games. The Celtics took home their 10th overall championship in 12 years and now doubled the Lakers total championships.
