The young 1995-96 Los Angeles Lakers were another year more experienced and another year better. They jumped to 53-29, a multi-game improvement from the year before, to get to the No. 4 seed.
However, that improvement didn’t translate to the postseason, as the Lakers would lose in the first round to the Houston Rockets in a 3-1 series.
Very little of what happened in the Western Conference mattered, as Michael Jordan’s first full season back from retirement saw him, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman hit the ground running.
They blitzed the entire league easily, winning 72 games to set a new NBA record for regular season wins. This translated to the playoffs, where they went 11-1 in the first three rounds to get to the NBA Finals.
There, they would play the Seattle SuperSonics, the only team who posed even the most remote threat to the Bulls. It didn’t matter, as they would win in six to grab their fourth championship of the Jordan era.
