2011 NBA Draft Review: Picks, Trades and Analysis

Last night marked the last official NBA event before a potential lockout. At the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey the league held it’s annual amateur draft. The event is usually held in New York’s Madison Square Garden, but was moved across the river due to renovations in MSG.

Here is a complete review of last night’s picks, including those taken by the Lakers. There were also several trades last night, as the Lakers sent their third pick (56th overall) for a future second rounder.

Cleveland kicked off the first round by drafting Kyrie Irving. After 29 more picks the first round was complete. {RESULTS}

Los Angeles had four picks in the second round, and after 30 additional picks the 2011 NBA Draft was in the books. {RESULTS}

The Lakers first pick was 41st overall, and they used it to draft Michigan guard Darius Morris. {ANALYSIS}

Ten picks later the Lakers were back on the clock for the 56th pick. They took Chukwudiebere Madaubum from Bakersfield (NBDL) before selecting Sudan’s Ater Majok with the 58th overall pick. {ANALYSIS}

After the draft the team announced they had made their first trade of the off-season, shipping Madaubum to the Denver Nuggets for a future second round draft pick. {REPORT}

While it may not seem like the most successful of NBA Drafts for the Lakers it was certainly an interesting one. The team has several players that can contend for a roster spot this season and another that has a chance to go overseas and develop for the future.
