Pre-draft workouts have are already underway for teams across the NBA as everyone begins preparing for next month’s NBA Draft. After moving up to the second overall pick, the Los Angeles Lakers are expected to choose between one of the two big men at the top of the draft, Karl-Anthony Towns and Jahlil Okafor.

Towns, whom most consider the top prospect in the draft, will not workout for any teams and will only interview with the Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves according to Adam Zagoria of SNY.tv:

Projected No. 1 draft pick Karl-Anthony Towns will interview with the top two teams in the NBA Draft lottery — the Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Lakers — but won’t workout for any teams, sources told SNY.tv.

This isn’t much of a surprise as Towns knows that he won’t fall past the Lakers at number two. Most assumed that Towns would be the top pick, but there have been consistent rumors that the Timberwolves prefer Okafor to Towns, leaving open the possibility that Towns could fall to the Lakers.

Towns would be an excellent addition to the Lakers as he is an all-around big man capable of scoring both inside and out and, more importantly, is dominant defensively. He would provide the Lakers with much needed rim protection that the team lacked last season.

The Lakers have already begun their workouts, mostly with projected late-first and early-second round picks. They are expected to work out more higher ranked prospects next week with workouts scheduled Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
