Magic Advises Phil Jackson To Follow Path Of Jerry West and Pat Riley

Now that Phil Jackson is the new face of the New York Knicks franchise, Lakers legend Magic Johnson has a word of advice for the former head coach. Magic took to Twitter on Tuesday and tweeted the following about a few other Lakers legends that took the same path he’s taking:

Magic went on to explain how West and Riley set the standard for the path that Jackson is taking with the Knicks via Twitter:

Everywhere Jackson has been throughout his NBA career, he’s been a success. Although not the most talented player, Jackson won two titles with the Knicks back in the 1970’s.

During his time with the Chicago Bulls, Jackson called the shots and helped implement the Triangle Offense, leading Michael Jordan and company to win six titles in the Windy City.

As if winning a total of eight rings as a player and a head coach wasn’t impressive enough, Jackson was able to implement the same offense in Los Angeles with the Lakers winning five more rings. His success in Los Angeles brings his grand total of 13 championships won while being regarded as arguably the greatest head coach in NBA history and possibly in professional sports in this country.

Needless to say, Jackson has nothing to prove moving forward, but will be faced with a different challenge entirely as the member of the Knicks’ front office. The current state of the Knicks is about as bad as it gets with a superstar in Carmelo Anthony potentially leaving in the off-season and little room for changes due to the salary cap and lack of draft picks.
