Flashback Friday: Kobe Bryant Scores 62 Points In Three Quarters

Kobe Bryant has had some outstanding shooting performances in his 18-year career. But none may be better than the time Kobe outscored a team in three quarters. Fortunately for the Dallas Mavericks, Kobe sat out the entire fourth quarter.

Kobe was in the midst of his highest scoring season where he averaged 35 points per game and scored over 50 points seven times. To put that into perspective, LeBron James has scored over 50 points just ten times in his entire career, and Kevin Durant has only accomplished that mark four times.

Kobe started hot and finished the first half with 32 points, but what he accomplished in the third quarter was unprecedented. While not only outscoring the Mavericks by himself, 62-61, Kobe set a new franchise record for points in a quarter with 30.

With the Lakers up handily on the Mavericks, coach Phil Jackson opted to rest his All-Star leaving fans to wonder what could have been. However, Laker fans would get that question answered just two months later.

While fans can only speculate how many points he could have scored, this game will be forever remembered as the time Kobe Bryant single handedly outscored a team.
