Although Durant has taken a giant leap toward creating his own legacy this season, the former Texas Longhorn hasn’t gotten to this elite level without the right role model. Durant made it clear that Dirk Nowitzki is his favorite player in the NBA along with Kobe Bryant according to ESPN’s Marc Stein:

Dirk, you see, is Durant’s favorite active player.

“It’s probably a tie between him and Kobe,” Durant said after giving it some extra thought.

With only a handful of games left to go in the 2013-14 NBA season, the Thunder sit behind the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference standings. Oklahoma City has been one of the most consistent teams this season with Durant having arguably the best year of his career.

It seems to be a foregone conclusion at this point that Durant is destined to win his first MVP award. LeBron James of the Miami Heat has also received strong consideration, but all signs point to this being Durant’s year.

As for Kobe, the rehab process continues with the superstar dealing with a knee fracture suffered in December of last year. Although Kobe hoped to be back on the floor at some point this season, the five-time champion has been stuck on the sidelines while taking precautionary measures to return at 100 percent.
