NBA News: Kevin Durant To Be Named NBA MVP This Week
[new_royalslider id=”209″]

It looks as if Kevin Durant has finally ended the Lebron James stranglehold on the NBA MVP award.

According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, Durant has been voted as the 2013-14 NBA MVP, his first time winning the award:

Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant is expected to be named league MVP early next week, according to sources close to the situation.

Durant turned in an outstanding season, leading the NBA in scoring again with 32 points per game while also averaging more than seven rebounds and five assists in leading the Thunder to the West’s second seed despite missing Russell Westbrook for nearly half the season.

Lebron James had won the MVP award two years in a row, and four of the last five seasons with the lone exception being Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose’s 2011 campaign.

Outside of an early season surge from Indiana Pacers forward Paul George, no other players were ever truly in contention to win the award outside of Durant and James.

Durant seemed to distance himself from the pack with his record-breaking streak of 41 consecutive games scoring 25 points or more.

Durant, now in his seventh season, will be one of the most sought after free agents when his contract runs out after the 2016 season.
