Despite the rough season last year, there were a number of Lakers who enjoyed career years. Chief among them was big man Jordan Hill who posted career highs in points, rebounds, and field goal percentage.

Hill is slated to be the starting center this season after signing a new contract with the Lakers this summer. He knows what he has to bring to the Lakers this season, and has also been working on his outside shot this summer, as he told Lakers reporter Mike Trudell:

And I’ve been working on the jumper, the 17-footer and it’s dropping a little bit, dropping pretty well right now and it’s definitely gonna help my game out as I go through the season.

Hill has been working hard and adding to his game because the Lakers will be expecting a lot more from him this year. Hill seems ready to handle the added pressure however:

I’m ready, and it’s definitely gonna be a big challenge for me so I just gotta stay ready, stay focused. In the whole off-season, like I said, I’ve been working, trying to stay in shape and just improve my game. I’ve just gotta take it one day at a time and we’re gonna get it.

Hill will definitely be one of the keys to the Lakers season, especially on the defensive end where he could make a huge difference if he is able to patrol the paint like he says he will.

This is the season for Hill to prove that he is more than just an energy guy off the bench. If he can develop a consistent jumper, among other things, he will do just that.
