The news of Steve Nash’s season-ending injury came as a huge letdown, not only for the Los Angeles Lakers team and fans, but also the entire NBA. Nash is one of the most respected players in the league and the possibility of his career ending because of injury is a tough pill to swallow.

Numerous players have spoken out in support of Nash and the latest to do so is LeBron James, who said that it sucks that Nash’s body has failed him according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin:

It’s tough,” James said Sunday. “You hate to see anyone have the game be taken away from him because of injury and especially a talent like that. Obviously he’s worked his tail off to try to be healthy and play for that franchise and over his career he’s always kept his body in shape, we all knew that. For his body to fail him at a time where he still feels like he has something to give to the game, I think it sucks.”

James clearly has a lot of respect for Nash. So much, in fact, that he even said that he wished he could have been a teammate of his:

The way he played the game of basketball, I wish I could have been a teammate of his for probably a year or two just to be around a guy like that who is just all about team,” James said. “He never asked for anything and everything was given to him and you can respect somebody like that.”

Nash’s name would probably be on most players’ list for guys they would have liked to play with. He is a master at getting his teammates excellent looks and numerous players had career years playing alongside him.

His time in Los Angeles wasn’t what we expected, but it wasn’t for lack of effort. Regardless of how his Lakers stint turned out, he will remain one of the most respected players in the league.
