Byron Scott Says Jordan Clarkson To See Backup Point Guard Minutes

Injuries have already been a thorn in the Los Angeles Lakers’ side this season, and the games that count haven’t even started yet. In particular, the ‘point guard curse’ seems to have carried over from last season to this year.

With Steve Nash gone for the season and Ronnie Price banged up with a bone bruise in his knee, Byron Scott said that rookie Jordan Clarkson will get some backup point guard minutes in tomorrow’s season opener according to Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters:

This should come as no surprise as the Lakers simply have no one else capable of running the point. For the most part this preseason, Clarkson has been playing off the ball with either Price or Jeremy Lin handling the ball, but now Clarkson will get his chance to show he can run the offense.

Last season, the Lakers point guard position was decimated because of injuries, and it seemed like every person who played the position went down to some sort of injury. Steve Nash, Steve Blake, Jordan Farmar, Xavier Henry and Kobe all went down last season after starting at point guard at some point last year.

Clarkson has a lot of potential, and is probably the Lakers’ best athlete in the backcourt. If he can prove that he can run the offense and be a lockdown defender, he has a good chance to be a mainstay in the rotation even after the Lakers get healthy.
