Last season, Nick Young was the best offensive player for the Los Angeles Lakers. Young averaged 17.9 points per game off the bench and resurrected his career as arguably one of the best sixth men in the NBA.

With Young shouldering the scoring load for Kobe Bryant last year, many wondered how he’d play alongside the five-time NBA champion this season. Although many anticipated Young and Bryant potentially clashing, the two veterans play well together with a mutual respect for one another.

After the win against the visiting Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night, Young was asked what it’s like playing with Kobe. Young had this to say about sharing the floor with his superstar teammate:

“It’s crazy because I always grew up a Kobe [Bryant] fan, especially being from L.A. I remember having the jerseys and all that. Coming in the locker room and talking trash to one of the best players to ever play this game is crazy.”

In 22 games played this season, Young is averaging 25.2 minutes per game and continues to be instant offense off the bench for the Lakers.

The 29-year-old is scoring 14.6 points per game which is second on the team behind Kobe Bryant. The Lakers superstar is currently leading the league in scoring at 25.5 points per contest ahead of James Harden, Anthony Davis, LeBron James and Blake Griffin.

It’s been a tough season thus far for the Lakers with only six wins up to this point. Young and Bryant have been the few bright spots for this team along with the play of Jordan Hill and Ed Davis, but Scott continues to tinker with the lineup to find the right mix to make this squad competitive.
