VIDEO: Kobe Bryant Praises Ed Davis, ‘Phenomenal’

Ed Davis scored a season-high 20 points on 7-9 shooting with eight rebounds and two blocks in the Lakers close loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night. Most telling of Davis’ solid performance was Kobe Bryant trusting Davis with the ball in his hands and the game on the line.

With the clock ticking down to what could have been the final possession, Bryant drew a double team and kicked it to Davis in the post who got hacked and sent to the free-throw line with 2.8 seconds on the clock. Ultimately, Davis made his first and missed his second, which would have tied the game.

After the game, Bryant voiced his utmost confidence in Davis and said he’s probably never been in that type of situation before.

I don’t know if he’s ever been in that position before,” Bryant told the media. “You don’t know what that emotion feels like until you go through it.”

In the locker room, Davis said he knew how much it meant for Bryant to have that trust in him. While he was at the line getting ready to shoot his free-throws, Davis said Bryant looked over at him and gave him a head shake of confidence. Despite Davis missing his second free-throw, Bryant had plenty of praise for Davis after the game.

He knows exactly where to go. His activity is phenomenal. He’s just all over the place.”
