Kobe Still Leading All-Star Voting; Odom, Gasol, Bynum Need Votes

The third All-Star voting returns are in, and it looks very similar to the first two. Lakers’ star Kobe Bryant leads the way with 1,391,597 votes, more than any other player in the Western Conference. This continues a recent trend of Bryant’s popularity, who has been leading the voting since the first returns were announced.

Other Lakers with a chance to start are forwards Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom, and center Andrew Bynum. Gasol is currently third in voting behind Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony. Gasol is 40,000 votes behind Anthony, and will need a major boost to overtake the Nuggets’ star.

Lamar Odom is even further down the list, trailing three other forwards in addition to Gasol, Anthony, and Durant. Odom’s best chances of making the All-Star team for the first time in his career are to be chosen as a reserve.

Another Laker looking to play in the All-Star game for the first time in his career is young Andrew Bynum. Bynum is currently second in voting amongst all centers, but there is a slight catch. He trails Houston Rockets center Yao Ming, who is currently injured and out for the season. This means that Bynum may get a chance to take his place on the roster if he is able to maintain his position amongst the standings.
