According to Sam Amick of USA Today, the Kings are making progress on a deal with George Karl to him the new head coach in Sacramento:

The Sacramento Kings made significant progress on a deal with coach George Karl on Sunday, when the once-sizable gap between the two sides on salary and length of contract was narrowed and confidence rose that a workable deal could be done.

The Kings started off the 2014-15 campaign strong with DeMarcus Cousins and company seemingly coming into their own winning nine of their first 14 games of the season. Malone was thought to be a vital piece to the puzzle in Sacramento, but quickly became expendable once the team began to struggle.

Sacramento hit a wall once Cousins went down with a knee injury in November against the Houston Rockets. Cousins would miss the next 10 games and as a result. Sacramento lost eight of those 10 games.

During that span of 10 games without Cousins, Sacramento chose to fire Malone. Ty Corbin has been the interim coach since the firing and have only won seven games in the last 26 since deciding to remove Malone.
