In a time when point guards are dominating the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers will be looking to improve that position this upcoming summer and will have options via free agency, trade, or draft:

Rajon Rondo, Dallas Mavericks: Before being traded to the Mavericks earlier this season, the Lakers expressed interest in Rondo. With the asking price too high, the former All-Star point guard was eventually traded to Dallas. Heading into this off-season, Rondo “wouldn’t say it’s closed” to the Mavericks and Kobe Bryant has stated that he will recruit the point guard.

Goran Dragic, Phoenix Suns: Dragic was named the NBA’s Most Improved Player and there were high expectations heading into this season. However, with the addition of Isaiah Thomas, Dragic has had to play out of position at the small forward position as the Suns are experimenting with a three point guard lineup. While the Lakers have been trying to trade for him ‘all year’ according to reports, Dragic will have an ‘open’ free agency where Los Angeles is expected to offer him a four-year, $80 million max contract.

Isaiah Thomas, Phoenix Suns: This past summer, Thomas expressed interest in playing for the Lakers. However, with Los Angeles waiting on Carmelo Anthony, the 60th pick from the 2011 NBA Draft eventually signed a four-year, $28 million contract with the Suns. While Thomas is having a strong season off the bench for the Suns, the franchise is trying to trade him instead of Dragic as the trade deadline nears.

Reggie Jackson, Oklahoma City Thunder: Despite playing behind Russell Westbrook, Jackson exploded in the 2014 NBA Playoffs and there were high expectations for the point guard heading into this season. With the Thunder deciding not to extend Jackson earlier this season, he will become a restricted free agent and has expressed his desire to become a starter in this league. After trading for Dion Waiters recently, there have been rumors about the Thunder looking to trade Jackson before the deadline and the Lakers have expressed interest.
