Lakers News: Ed Davis Upset About Sitting Out Against Nets

Ed Davis

With only 10 games left in the 2014-15 NBA season for the Los Angeles Lakers, head coach Byron Scott is in the process of evaluating the players on the roster.

As a result of the coaching staff going through the evaluation process, a few veterans on the roster have taken turns sitting out. On Sunday afternoon, it was Ed Davis’ turn to watch from the sidelines.

Although other veteran frontcourt players like Carlos Boozer and Jordan Hill have been fine with sitting out a few games as the season comes to a close, Davis wasn’t happy about missing the game against the Brooklyn Nets. Davis said the following about missing Sunday’s game, via Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times:

“Honestly, I don’t like it,” the Lakers forward said Sunday before the Lakers lost to Brooklyn, 107-99. “I didn’t ask to sit out or anything. I wanted to play 82 games this year. But, you know, it’s not my decision.”

Unlike many players on the Lakers roster, Davis has been able to stay relatively healthy throughout the season. Along with being able to healthy during his first year in Los Angeles, the veteran forward/center has been arguably one of the most consistent players on the squad and could be in the team’s long-term plans.

Davis will head into the off-season with a player option worth $1,063,384. The veteran will likely opt out of his deal in order to become an unrestricted free agent. Davis has expressed interest in staying in Los Angeles, but it remains to be seen whether he’ll be able to secure a lucrative long-term deal with the Lakers.
