After months of anxiety and waiting, the Los Angeles Lakers brass can rest easy with the team now owning the second overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. The storied franchise is in an ideal position with the team likely getting one of the two best players in the draft on June 25.

Although Mitch Kupchak has a lot of work ahead with the draft right around the corner, the longtime Lakers general manager let off some steam on Tuesday night. Once the Lakers heard the results of the lottery, Kupchak was popping champagne in celebration of finally hearing some good news about the team’s direction.

The Lakers posted the video of Kupchak popping the champagne bottle admitting that it’s not the first pick, but second is just as good in this case, via Instagram:

"We didn't get #1, but #2's okay in this case."

Immediately after the NBA Draft on June 25, Kupchak and the Lakers organization will have to change gears to the free agency. Along with upgrading with a top-tier draft prospect, Los Angeles will look to make a splash with the signing of a big-name free agent.

It’ll be a busy off-season for Kupchak and company as they try to rebuild a franchise on the verge of a new era. Landing the second overall pick is a great start to what could be a very prosperous summer for Los Angeles.
