Ever since he came into the league, Lou Williams has been categorized as a scorer and he has lived up to that expectation. He has averaged double-figures in points in each of the last eight seasons including a career high 15.5 last season when he was named NBA Sixth Man of the Year.

Now having joined the Los Angeles Lakers on a three-year contract, Williams sees himself as someone who will help ease the workload on Kobe Bryant according to Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News:

But Williams characterized himself as a player that can both ease Bryant’s workload and handle his demanding personality. Williams also added Bryant’s presence partly influenced him choosing the Lakers over Toronto.

Williams added that he expects to come in when Kobe goes out to help the team keep up their offense and scoring level and allow Kobe to get a breather:

When he goes out, I’m sure I’ll be coming in,” Williams said of Bryant in a phone interview on Monday with Los Angeles News Group. “That’s how it will work. We won’t have too many lapses. We’ll be able to keep the scoring level going and give him an opportunity to get a breather and then he’ll come back in.”

Williams will definitely do exactly that as he is capable of putting up a lot of points very quickly. He has embraced the sixth man role and will help to provide a scoring punch off the bench for the Lakers.

By the looks of things, Kobe’s workload will be reduced this season. In addition to Williams, both D’Angelo Russell and Julius Randle are turning heads already in Summer League practices and Jordan Clarkson has proven he is a capable playmaker at the NBA level.
