The Los Angeles Lakers were able to get their third win of the preseason on Monday night with Ryan Kelly coming through with some late-game heroics. Los Angeles had the game in the hand in the closing minutes with it only being a matter of time before they’d come out with the win. Although the Lakers appeared to be in control, the Blazers were able to take advantage of a couple of turnovers in the final minute of the game.
With only a few seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter and the game tied at 102, head coach Byron Scott set up an inbounds play with Kelly, Jabari Brown, D’Angelo Russell, Metta World Peace and Tarik Black on the floor. Most believed Russell or Brown would end up with the ball for the last shot, but Kelly got the ball at the top of the key and took advantage.
Kelly fooled the defense and unexpectedly drove to the hoop taking the defender completely off guard. The forward then threw down the dunk and sealed the deal for the Lakers leaving only two seconds on the clock.
