While the Los Angeles Lakers are professional athletes, they also have their personal aspects of life to reflect upon. It is preposterous for some fans to think of these athletes as human beings, resonating with their lives. However, for rookie forward Brandon Ingram, it is hard not to ponder about his hometown.

Ingram grew up in Kinston, North Carolina, which is relatively close to the Atlantic Ocean. Unfortunately, the East Coast is suffering from the wrath of Hurricane Matthew. The city has suffered from vicious floods, which stems from the banks of the Neuse River.

Kinston also fell victim to Hurricane Fran in 1996 and Hurricane Floyd in 1999. The water levels have risen steadily during this disaster, putting the city and houses in danger.

During this difficult time, it is understandable for Ingram to get lost in the process, pondering the safety of the city he grew up in.

While the 19-year-old doesn’t remember the flooding in 1996 and 1999, those around him have exposed him to the destruction.

Ingram gave some insight into the horrific situation, stating that it is expected to get worse, via Baxter Holmes of ESPN.com:

“This time, it’s actually [as] bad and it’s going to get worse over the new days,” he said.

The second overall selection by the Lakers in the 2016 NBA Draft has spoken to his agent about sending aide. They are targeting potential relief efforts, in order to accommodate any assistance.

The Duke alumnus heavily credited the city he grew up in, hoping that they all remain safe during this tragic time.
