Lakers News Feed: Does L.A. Already Have A Star On The Roster?
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Lakers will head into the summer with a mountain of cap space to spend as they search for a superstar free agent to lead their franchise. However, what if they already have a star on their roster?

The latest Lakers News Feed features host Trevor Lane taking a look at two players who are turning heads right now and could conceivably give the team the star power they have long desired.

With the Lakers riding a three-game win streak entering Thursday’s game with the Miami Heat, big man Julius Randle has looked like a man amongst boys.

His combination of strength, speed, and an improved scoring touch around the rim have made him a force to be reckoned with on a nightly basis. At just 23 years old, it’s not hard to envision a future where Randle makes multiple All-Star teams.

Should Randle continue to perform at this level, what might that mean for the demand for his services on the free agent market this summer? He will almost certainly be restricted, but should the Lakers pay whatever it costs in order to hang onto the budding star? Or will their pursuit of players like LeBron James and Paul George force them to allow Randle to walk away?

Perhaps even more so than Randle, 20-year-old Brandon Ingram has been electric over the last few weeks. Given the level of success that he is finding at such a young age, it isn’t out of the question for Ingram to soar right past All-Star status and become a true superstar.

If that happens, what would that mean for the team’s pursuit of stars this summer? Are they as desperate for top-level talent as they have been in years past?
