Lakers News: Thomas Bryant Called Up From South Bay For Road Trip
Darrell Ann-Lakers Nation

The Los Angeles Lakers once again called up Thomas Bryant from their South Bay affiliate of the G League. Bryant has averaged 19.6 points and 7.6 rebounds over 35 games with South Bay.

He’s available to play in Thursday’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans. From there, the Lakers have road games against the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday, and face the Detroit Pistons on Monday.

While the Lakers are lacking depth at the wing position because of injuries to Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart, they may soon lose Travis Wear as well.

Thursday marks the final day of Wear’s second 10-day contract with the team. The Lakers will either need to sign him for the remainder of the season or have Wear return to South Bay.

As for Bryant, he’s played in just 10 games for the Lakers. The bulk of that has come late in contests with the game already in hand. Despite the minimal playing time, the organization is bullish on their second-round pick from the 2017 NBA Draft.

Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka has raved about Bryant’s ability to shoot the 3-pointer, and said the athletic big man factors prominently into the team’s plans moving forward. Bryant himself has said a goal is to become the best two-way big in the league.
