According to sources the Los Angeles Lakers are looking into the possibility of bringing Rick Adelman in to replace Phil Jackson as head coach. With Jackson expected to retire the team will be looking for his replacement, and rumor has it they’re considering making Adelman the 22nd coach in team history.

Adelman has a long history in the NBA. He led the Portland Trail Blazers to the NBA Finals back in 1992 where he lost to the Chicago Bulls. Adelman made another deep playoff run in 2002 with the Sacramento Kings before falling to the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Finals. After Sacramento he moved on to Houston, where he led them to the second round of the playoffs in 2009 before falling to the Lakers once again.

Ironically the head coach of all three of the teams that beat Adelman’s teams during his playoff runs was the same man he would replace if he joined Los Angeles – Phil Jackson.

Whether or not the Lakers bring in Adelman is yet to be seen, but it’s no surprise that they’re giving him some consideration. The franchise is expected to interview multiple candidates over the next few weeks before making their decision.
