<< 1962-63 Los Angeles Lakers | 1964-65 Los Angeles Lakers >>
The 1963-64 Los Angeles Lakers fell off a bit from the previous two seasons. Despite Jerry West and Elgin Baylor proving to be one of the best duos in the sport, they had little to no help otherwise, dropping them from a 53-27 No. 1 seed to a 42-38 No. 3 seed.
Being the three seed set them up for a first round matchup against one of their most common enemies, the St. Louis Hawks. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to move to the divisional finals, dropping the series 3-2.
In the NBA Finals, the San Francisco Warriors got a crack at the five-time defending champion Boston Celtics. Their attempt was futile, as Bill Russell picked up his sixth consecutive NBA championship, bringing the Celtics total to seven.
