<< 2011-12 Los Angeles Lakers | 2013-14 Los Angeles Lakers >>

The 2012-13 Los Angeles Lakers were a turning point in the franchise’s history. The front office went all in during the offseason, acquiring Steve Nash and Dwight Howard to pair with Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol. Expectations were sky high for a star-studded roster.

However, things immediately went wrong, as Nash missed almost half the season with injury, and Bryant and Howard feuded at every turn. In a heroic effort to get the Lakers into the playoffs, Bryant famously tore his Achilles, but sunk two free throws on his way out of the game.

The Lakers would limp into the postseason as the No. 7 seed, and would be swept by the San Antonio Spurs. This would be the last Lakers playoff appearance until 2020.

The Spurs got all the way through the Western Conference and faced LeBron James and the Miami Heat in the Finals. This turned out to be one of the best Finals of all time, as the Heat came back from a 3-2 series deficit to win it all for the second straight year.
