After two years of speculation and uncertainty Ricky Rubio is finally taking his talents to Minnesota. The Spanish point guard confirmed he will be joining the Minnesota Timberwolves for the 2011-12 season.

The Timberwolves originally drafted Rubio with the No. 5 pick in the 2009 draft. However, an expensive buyout clause with Rubio’s Barcelona team forced him to stay in Spain until now.

Rubio, 20, is perhaps best known for his contributions in the 2008 Olympics when he helped lead Spain to the silver medal alongside fellow countrymen Pau Gasol and Rudy Fernandez.

There is still a possibility that Rubio ends up staying in Spain next season, as things could get sticky with the buyout clause. However, both Rubio and the Timberwolves are optimistic that the deal will be completed and the young guard will be playing in Minnesota next season.
