Ron Artest Facing Insurance Problems to Play Overseas

Although rumors said Ron Artest would head to England and play for the Chesire Jets, it now seems as though the world champion may not cross the pond.

According to Artest’s agent, David Bauman, the Jets are not offering his client insurance. Bauman said this results in a ‘major problem’ and will most likely impede Artest from signing with the English team. “It’s still on the table,” Bauman said. “But again, this insurance thing is a significant and a serious obstacle for any of the NBA players.”

Artest still has a three-year, $21.8-million deal remaining with the Lakers but playing basketball with insurance could put him in a very difficult situation. However, Jets owner Pete Hawkins is still pushing to get Artest to Europe. “The next few days we need to work really hard.” Said Hawkins. “Insurance was always an issue from the outset, but we are still trying hard to ensure Ron has the protection he needs to play.”

Before Ron Artest heads off to England, he must make sure the team will offer him insurance. He could risk his NBA career if something goes wrong while playing for the Jets.
