After sustaining a rib injury in Tuesday night’s game against the Phoenix Suns it was initially thought that Blake would just miss a few games. Now it seems that the initial report was a bit premature.

The Lakers announced Friday night that Blake will be out 3-4 weeks with the injury. The announcement came just one day after the team offered a press released that stated an MRI had revealed “a costochaondral fracture (fracture of the cartilage that connects the rib to the sternum).

Blake initially sustained the injury on Tuesday against Phoenix but still played 18 minutes Wednesday night when the Lakers defeated the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City. According to team sources he re-aggravated the injury against the Jazz, which is now forcing him to remain sidelined for the next several weeks.

With Blake sidelined, coach Mike Brown is expected to use rookie guard Darius Morris to backup the veteran Derek Fisher.
