As Lamar Odom prepares for is first game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday since being traded from the team last month, it has been revealed that he actually considered sitting out this season.

Marc Stein of ESPN is reporting that Odom was “real close” to taking the season off after a tumultuous off-season.

“Left reeling by the July murder of his 24-year-old cousin and a fatal car accident days later that killed a teen pedestrian after the car he was riding in as a passenger collided with a motorcycle, Odom told ESPN.com that he had to be convinced by wife Khloe Kardashian to scrap his plans for a hiatus.”

Odom was reportedly questioning his ability to take on the mental stresses that the NBA season brings with it.

There’s no question that Odom is certainly struggling on the court in his first season with the Mavericks. Odom is averaging just 6.6 points and 4.8 rebounds in a career-low 19.8 minutes per game.

Odom’s Mavericks will take on the team they eliminated from the post-season in 2011, the Lakers, on Monday night.
