Lakers News: Raptors Willing to Trade Point Guard Calderon

The Toronto Raptors are reportedly willing to trade away long-time point guard Jose Calderon, Marc Stein from ESPN reports. However, the Raptors will want something in return for Calderon and are looking to get another point guard in exchange for him.

“Sources with knowledge of Toronto’s thinking say that the team is not just going to give Calderon away, especially when he’s back to supplying a typically efficient 10.6 points and 8.7 assists nightly, but I’m told that the Raps are indeed open to moving him.”

The Lakers would surely benefit from acquiring Calderon, who is averaging 10.5 points and 8.4 assists per game this season. Calderon has been a consistent player all throughout his career but being with a small market team like the Raptors has hurt this image around the league. If Calderon played for a popular team like the Lakers or Knicks, he surely would receive much more recognition.

In addition, Pau Gasol would be able to play alongside his Spanish basketball teammate for the first time in the NBA. Gasol and Calderon will be joining forces in the 2012 Summer Olympics, and there is a chance they can do that with the Lakers.
