Kobe Talks About Critics: “We’re All Surrounded By Idiots”

On Sunday night, Kobe Bryant officially quieted his critics by posting his fifth 40-point game of the season helping lead the Los Angeles Lakers over the Golden State Warriors (120-112) at the Staples Center to get the sixth win in the last 10 games.

It has been pretty obvious over the last few weeks that Kobe Bryant hasn’t been usual dominant self as he has struggled shooting the basketball. Just one day before torching the Warriors for 40 points, Kobe had arguably one of the worst shooting performances of his career going 3-for-21 from the field and finishing with just 11 points in the win over the New Orleans Hornets. Kobe did hit the game-winning three against the Hornets, but his poor shooting was the number one topic in Los Angeles shortly after a dismal performance.

After Sunday night’s win over the Warriors, Kobe Bryant was asked if he’s been bothered by the doubters and people calling him over-the-hill via Helene Elliot of the L.A. Times:

“It’s interesting to me to hear people talk after a game like that, that I’m done and all that stuff,” he said. “The amount of idiots that live out here, after 16 years, is baffling to me. I guess people just get dumber over the years.”

Including those who carp about his efforts.

“We’re all surrounded by idiots. All of us,” he said. “We’re all surrounded by idiots.”

Not a diplomatic way to treat the fans who are paying the ever-increasing freight to see him play. Or did he mean the media gathered around his locker?

“Take it as you wish,” he said.

It appears that no matter what stands in his way or what people think or say about him, Kobe Bryant continues to have ice water flowing through his veins as he refusing to let outside distractions affect his game on the basketball floor.

Whether or not the Black Mamba can continue at this pace and refuse to let the media take its toll remains to be seen, but as of right now the league’s leading scorer has the goal of winning a sixth NBA championship on his my mind moving forward.
