After celebrating a big win over the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday afternoon, the Lakers will now have one more reason to party.

Today marks the 55th birthday for legendary Laker swingman Michael Cooper. He was a five time NBA champion and a key member of Lakers’ ‘Showtime’ era, along with Hall of Fame players like Magic Johnson, James Worthy and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Cooper was known for his highlight dunks and tenacious defense. He was a member of the NBA All-Defense First Team five times in his career, and was the team’s key defensive stopper during the 1980s. He was a member of the Lakers from 1978 through 1990, and was a fan-favorite for every one of those seasons.

Currently Cooper is the head coach at the University of Southern California, where he leads the Women of Troy. Cooper is the only person to win a championship, as either a coach or a player, in the NBA, WNBA, and the NBA Development League.
