Lakers News: Steve Officially Signs With Team

The Los Angeles Lakers have officially signed All-Star point guard Steve Nash after a sign-and-trade with the Phoenix Suns. The Lakers sent draft picks to the Suns for Nash and the a new era has started in Los Angeles.

Even though the trade was made last week, things weren’t able to become official until late Tuesday night.

The Lakers, as well as all other teams in the NBA, could not officially sign Nash until the ban was lifted at midnight eastern time on July 11. The team did not waste any time inking their new point guard.

Nash will be introduced at an official press conference tomorrow at the Lakers practice facility in El Segundo. That facility, ironically, is on Nash St. How appropriate.

The press conference is scheduled for 12:00 PM PT.

Here’s a bit of the official press release from the Lakers concerning the deal.

The Los Angeles Lakers have acquired two-time MVP Steve Nash from the Phoenix Suns in exchange for first round draft picks in 2013 and 2015 as well as second round draft picks in 2013 and 2014, it was announced today by General Manager Mitch Kupchak.
