Former Laker Ramon Sessions Signs with the Charlotte Bobcats

After Ramon Sessions decided to opt-out of the final year of his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, the up-and-coming point guard’s fate was sealed.

The consensus early on was that the Lakers would sign Sessions to the long-term deal he was looking for, but the front office continued to explore their options with Steve Nash and Deron Williams in their crosshairs.

Fortunately for the Lakers, Nash agreed to a sign-and-trade that would send him to Los Angeles for draft picks. Once the deal was done, Sessions’ short stint with the Lakers was over and the search for a new team began for the 26-year-old.

Despite not receiving much interest around the league after the Lakers decided to move forward with Nash, Sessions was finally able to find an interested team in the form of the Charlotte Bobcats according to ESPN.com:

“The Charlotte Bobcats have agreed to a two-year contract with former Los Angeles Lakers point guard Ramon Sessions.”

Even though Sessions wanted to remain a starter in the NBA, the former Laker may have to resume the same role he had with the Cleveland Cavaliers once again. As of right now, the Bobcats’ starting point guard is UConn standout Kemba Walker. It is uncertain at this point in time whether or not Charlotte is considering Sessions for the starting role or bringing him in strictly as a backup.

The Bobcats made the move to acquire Sessions after dropping the qualifying offer for D.J. Augustin. Once Augustin’s offer was rescinded, he quickly signed with the Indiana Pacers to become the backup for George Hill.

During his short time in Los Angeles, Sessions got the start as the Lakers’ floor general 19 times. Sessions averaged 12.7 points and 6.2 assists with the Lakers.

The details of Sessions’ deal with the Bobcats have yet to be disclosed.
