The Los Angeles Lakers are looking to strengthen their bench after claiming one of the worst second units in the NBA last season. The bench was well below average, and the front office understands that it needs to fix its issues.
The Lakers already added All-Star guard Steve Nash to the lineup and it is now time to move on to other priorities. According to sources, the Lakers are targeting Antawn Jamison and Jermaine O’Neal.
The Lakers hope one of the three veteran bigs accept the veteran’s minimum. The team also has the ‘mini’ mid-level exception, which begins at $3 million per year, but prefer to hold onto that in case a Dwight Howard trade is consummated.
Los Angeles was interested in adding Elton Brand to the roster, but he was quickly picked up by the Mavericks after the 76ers amnestied him. However, if Los Angeles really wants to improve the team, the best option is Jamison. He still has several years in front of him, and can surely help bring the Lakers to another level.
