A lot of questions have been raised about how the new Lakers team is going to play together, where the players will be situated on the court, and how this coming season should pan out. Nothing is certain until 10 months from now when we see if the Lakers have won another championship or not, but level-headed speculation may just feed our cravings for now.
Jabari Davis of Lakers Nation wrote a rather efficient piece today on the expectations he feels suit each major Lakers star. And with the biggest threat seeming to be Oklahoma City, a young and fast paced team, it is interesting to see what the Lakers have to bring to the table.
I don’t want to go too much into what Davis wrote; he really did a beautiful job putting his piece together. But I will say he delves into the question of injury, one that I have, and pulls apart why he thinks certain players will be fine this year, despite previous career ailments. One thing is for certain, Kobe is still expected to be a force on the court. With averages of 27.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists per game last season, it wasn’t one of his best years. However, the talent on the Lakers this year will certainly allow Bryant, and the others, to flourish.
Speaking of the Lakers starting roster, they may be adding Jordan Hill to that list very soon. You may be asking yourself why Gasol won’t be starting the season at power forward. Gasol will have to switch to center for Howard most likely in the first months. Unfortunately, as it looks now, Howard’s back surgery will prevent him from playing the first month or two of the 2012-2013 year. Antawn Jamison could also play the position, but more than likely he will remain an off the bench player, allowing the younger Hill to step up.
