Dwight Howard had a lot to say at his first Media Day as a L.A. Laker. The big man spoke about his appreciation for being on this Lakers roster and was said to have entered the facility with a big smile on his face, even telling a few jokes. Howard also discussed the possibility of Kobe retiring in a few years, and what that would mean for him with the organization. He didn’t clue us into much about his future plans, but spoke highly of the Lakers star, explaining that learning from Kobe is an honor. Lastly, Howard talked about a little Lakers, Miami Heat rivalry, commenting on the observation that the move to acquire him and Nash was much like Miami’s move to get Bosh and LeBron two seasons ago. In his discussion, you could tell Dwight was optimistic of this season’s outcome.
Kobe, as expected, gave Lakers Media an earful as well. His number one priority this year was an apparent championship. To him, winning his sixth ring would be the most important accomplishment. Bryant also addressed some Clipper rumors, denying their challenge that they pose a threat to the Lakers. Blake Griffin has been a Clippers force, but the addition of Chris Paul and ex-Laker Lamar Odom have increased their playing power. Not to mention former Laker Matt Barnes and also Ryan Hollins, who exploded in the playoffs for the Celtics. Lastly, the Lakers star discussed his relationship with one of the greatest centers to play basketball, Hakeem Olajuwon. Bryant recently spent some time working with Olajuwon, and talked about the impact it had on his game.
Steve Nash did the unthinkable yesterday and addressed… his age! We all know Nash has a lot of fuel in the tank, but this Lakers starting roster is a little geriatric. At 38, Nash explains he may be older, but he still plans on playing at a “high level.”

The starters had their moments to shine at Media Da, but a few of the bench players added some great insight as to their team roles and the season expectations. Serena Winters caught up with Meeks and Goudelock to ask them about their places on the team. Jodie Meeks is a reserve shooting guard, and will take over for Kobe when the star needs a break. The guard describes backing up Bryant as “unreal” and talks more about what this season has in store. Goudelock, into his second season with the Lakers, brought a new perspective to Media Day coverage, talking about how the team dynamic is confident and positive. The Lakers guard attributed much of the team ease to Dwight.
I am ending today’s link with my favorite statement at Media Day, coming from my favorite Laker player and Purple and Gold staple, Kobe Bryant. Everyone it talking about Howard. Nash. Gasol’s new role. But Kobe wants his fans, and the Laker organization to remember one thing; the Lakers are his team. And will be until he retires.
