Lakers to Make Donation to Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy Victims

The Los Angeles Lakers organization is the latest of many professional sports teams including the New York Yankees, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Seattle Seahawks to lend a helping hand to the victims of Hurricane Sandy by agreeing to make a sizable donation.

Along with the Lakers, the NBA and NFL agreed to help the Hurricane Sandy relief effort by donating a million dollars each.

According to the Lakers Press Release announcing the donation:

EL SEGUNDO-  The Los Angeles Lakers announced today that they will donate $50,000, and will match donations up to an additional $50,000 from its fans, for a total donation of $100,000 to the American Red Cross to assist victims of Hurricane Sandy, it was announced today by Janie Drexel, Director of Charitable Services.

“Although the devastation caused by this hurricane was thousands of miles from Southern California, we consider the Lakers to be part of a much larger community, and we wanted to do our part to help the recovery of those affected,” said Drexel.
