Coming into the 2012-13 NBA season, the Los Angeles Lakers had vastly upgraded their roster with the additions of superstars Steve Nash and Dwight Howard to play alongside Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol. The combination was expected to be lethal and historic with a few NBA titles potentially on the horizon, but the superstar cast hasn’t resulted in a successful season with the team on the verge of missing the NBA playoffs altogether.
Not only have the Lakers struggled to create some form of team chemistry or build any momentum throughout the first 58 games of the season, longtime owner Dr. Jerry Buss passed away shortly after the All-Star break devastating the team and the entire NBA for that matter.
Recently, GM Mitch Kupchak admitted to the fact that the team made rash decisions in an effort to win a title as soon as possible with Buss in critical condition. This mentality led to the team firing head coach Mike Brown after a 1-4 start and the team going all in on moves during the off-season.
Unfortunately, nothing has gone right thus far with the team continuing to struggle and currently two games under .500 with a record 28-30. Along with the ugly record at this point in the season, Howard signing for the long-term remains uncertain with talk of the superstar center possibly considering heading elsewhere if unhappy once the season is officially.
Despite the struggles, Kupchak and company remain optimistic about the team’s chances of clinching a playoff spot at season’s end.
