Lakers News: Mike D’Antoni Admits to Scoreboard Watching

Mike D'AntoniThe Los Angeles Lakers are in the final stretch of the regular season and if they do not get their act together, the team will watching the postseason from home. Los Angeles played horribly in the first half of the season, but the team is beginning to build chemistry and gain some ground in the Western Conference standings.

Lakers Nation’s Serena Winters spoke to coach Mike D’Antoni at practice and he admitted that he does in fact watch the scoreboard of how the other teams in the league are performing. At this point, the Lakers are two games behind in the loss column for the eight seed in the conference, meaning they will have to rely on other teams in order to make the post season.

“They can let me do that. I’ll do that for all of them. We just need to play. Our hole is so big that we can’t think that we can watch the board and do something. We just got to win games.”

“I always do. I might tell you guys I don’t do it. I think every coach does it. But at the same time, I’m starting to watch a little bit more cause I think we’re playing better and until that point there’s no use in watching until we get our stuff straight.”

The Rockets are currently ahead of the Lakers in the standings and Los Angeles is hoping Houston can lose several games in the coming weeks. The Lakers are beginning to play better basketball as of late and have improved vastly since the All-Star break, winning three of their first four games.

No one expected the Lakers to be fighting for a playoff spot before the season began, but unfortunately this is what the team is facing. Los Angeles will play Houston one more time during the regular season and that game could be crucial in the postseason standings. Nevertheless, the Lakers still have to take care of their business, and they will resume play today against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
