NBA News: Magic Johnson Offers LeBron James $1M For Dunk Contest

Magic JohnsonRemember all that hype about LeBron James entering the dunk contest this season? There were rumors that he might actually do it, but ultimately he decided against it and we saw another dull dunk contest full of mistakes and missed dunks. Now, James might have a little more incentive to join next season’s edition of the dunk contest thanks to former Laker Magic Johnson.

Recently, James has been getting attention for his pre-game dunk ritual, which has been impressive to say the least. In fact, Johnson was so impressed that he offered James or the winner of the dunk contest a cool $1 million next season.

On Kia NBA Shootaround, the ESPN warmup show, Johnson had this to say about next year’s contest;

“Please, LeBron, get in the dunk contest. I’m going to put up a million dollars. A million dollars from Magic to LeBron. Please get in the dunk contest. I go every year. I want to see you out there. A million to the winner.”

Not too shabby. Even I might be willing to embarrass myself in front of millions next season in New Orleans in an attempt to bring home a million bucks worth of Magic’s money.

But that’s the problem, right? LeBron isn’t exactly hurting for scratch. He’s one of the highest paid, most heavily endorsed athletes in the entire NBA. Would Magic’s million really make that big of a difference?

James still manages to take care of business on the court, though, as he was just named Eastern Conference Player of the Month, alongside Western Conference winner Kobe Bryant.
