Lakers Rumors: Metta World Peace to Opt Out After 2012-13 Season?

mettaworldpeace2012After the Lakers fell to the Golden State Warriors in an embarrassing fashion on Monday night, there was a lot of chatter after the game about the team’s future and moving forward. With L.A. back on the verge of missing the playoffs after three straight losses, it seems that now Metta World Peace might be looking to opt out of his contract next season.

According to Scott Howard-Cooper of NBA.com, World Peace might be looking to terminate his contract by not picking up his $7.7 million player option.

In a move that would be so Metta World Peace, Metta World Peace is not ruling out the possibility of terminating his contract after the season against all logic, telling NBA.com he would consider the move in the summer if it meant he could remain with the Lakers longer.

The possibility of the Lakers bringing World Peace back for another long-term deal following the season is about as likely as the team relocating back to Minneapolis. In fact, it’s looking more likely that World Peace will be a victim of the amnesty clause than anything else.

Still, that doesn’t seem to be dampening Metta’s spirits.

“It’s too early to say. I don’t know what the Lakers are thinking. I don’t know what anybody’s thinking. I don’t even know what other teams think. I don’t know what’s going on because I haven’t told my agent, ‘Hey, go out there and ask around’ and things like that. I don’t know what anybody’s thinking at this point in time. I just try to keep my game. I’m playing at a good level.”

Classic Ron.

World Peace and the Lakers will be back in action on Wednesday in Minnesota when they take on the Timberwolves.
