Dwight Howard Clears Up His Feelings On David Lee’s Hit

NBA: Los Angeles Lakers at Indiana PacersDwight Howard is a big target in the post, and receives a lot of excessive contact that usually doesn’t get called. In the recent matchup with the Golden State Warriors, Dwight Howard was hit by David Lee’s elbow, which resulted in stitches being applied to his mouth.

Dwight was visibly upset that Lee wasn’t whistled for the elbow hit, and sounded off in frustration after the game. Initially, the vented conversation alluded to Dwight getting some type of payback when the two teams meet again next month.

However, Dwight wanted to clear the air about those feelings, and had the following to say (per Dave McMenamin of ESPNLA) after Wednesday night’s win against Minnesota:

“I do want to clear it up,” Howard said. “I’m not going to do anything stupid the next time we play [the Warriors] to jeopardize myself, to jeopardize the team or jeopardize his career. Even though I felt like the play was dirty, I’m not going to do anything to retaliate but go out there and play hard and do it the right way, which is winning the game and dominating, instead of doing something stupid which could cost me or our team the game.”

The league has since retroactively given David Lee a flagrant 1 foul for his elbow against Dwight, but as in most retroactive calls, it’s too little too late. However, it is good to hear that Dwight will not let this distract him or the team from their goal.

The Lakers face the Warriors for the last time in the regular season on April 12, which should make for an entertaining and contentious game.
