The second annual NBA Social Media Awards has nine categories that include the events that kept social media in a buzz during the season.

Kobe Bryant joined Twitter and Instagram this season, and he instantly became one of the most followed athletes on social media. He also instantaneously became one of the best accounts to follow with the tweets that he has sent out so far.

The Mamba is a finalist in four of the nine categories that the fans can vote on including:

  • Snap Shot Award — For the photo tweeted by Kobe, who is about to “throw down” with Dwight Howard in front of Mike D’Antoni (shown above).
  • The Epic Award — Raptors vs. Lakers on March 8 — With the playoff race heating up, Kobe leads by example and pours in 42 to beat the Raptors in overtime.
  • The 140 Award — “Amnesty THAT” tweet sent on February 24
  • The Social MVP

Kobe certainly hasn’t lost touch with getting people talking with his consistent spectacular game moments and off the court remarks over the years. Bryant is already known to be one of the best in professional sports at providing poignant one-liners that either get the point across or make you think. His presence on Twitter has only added another platform to do this to a welcoming audience.
