Age has been a deterrent to success this season and many fans have pointed fingers at Gasol and Nash for not being what they used to be. Nash was in court today over a custody battle, but his testimonial cleared up some rumors. The Lakers PG has “no plans to hang up his jersey and retire from basketball.” Last season was mediocre for the NBA vet. Injuries made it hard for him to perform to the best of his ability.
Pau Gasol’s future is uncertain this coming season and Lakers Nation had something to say about it. Check out our roundtable to get perspectives from some of our best writers. Daniel Buerge states the dichotomy between a Lakers legendary player who has done so much for this team, while he battles the reality of his aging body. Ross Gasmer talks about the NBA getting quicker, and whether or not Pau can keep up. Elizabeth Benson mentions Gasol’s professionalism, but notes the Lakers CBA luxury tax system as a reason for him to get traded. Lastly, Ryan Ward discusses how Pau has been on the end of trade rumors for a while but this time will probably be sent packing.
To add, Lakers Nation decided to poll readers on a particularly interesting Gasol question. The team asked who has had the better career thus far, Pau Gasol or Chris Paul? 95% of you voted that Pau’s has been better. Both are at different point in their careers, so it will be interesting to see where Paul ends up. Maybe he will get two rings like Gasol.
