In a shocking move on Thursday morning, the Denver Nuggets let head coach George Karl go after the team completed their most successful season compiling 57 wins.
On ESPN Radio 710 Thursday afternoon, Steve Mason and John Ireland discussed a tweet Ireland received about the possibility of Phil Jackson and Brian Shaw re-uniting in Denver.

Denver would be an interesting situation for Jackson since it’s close to his off-season home in Montana, and it’d be close to his fiance Jeanie Buss. Also, the Kroenke’s have very deep pockets, and it wouldn’t be a stretch for them to offer a front office position to Jackson since general manager Masai Ujiri has moved on to Toronto.
Shaw might be the toughest part of this scenario since it’s been reported that he’s holding out hope about getting the Los Angeles Clippers job. Regardless, the Nuggets have the pieces that Shaw and Jackson could put together in order to run the triangle offense.
Jackson has made it clear several times so far in the off-season that he doesn’t foresee a return to the sidelines while he’s been consulting for the Detroit Pistons. He’s made it clear that he wants Shaw to follow him to Detroit, but with the firing of Karl and Ujiri moving to Toronto, Denver might be an attractive option for the two of them.
Regardless, the Nuggets are now an option for Jackson and Shaw, but it would be difficult for Jackson to go to a team in which he’s competing directly with his bride-to-be.
