Atlanta Hawks Fined For Tampering Involving Dwight Howard

The NBA’s free agency period will begin on July 1st, but the Atlanta Hawks got a little ahead of themselves and were punished for it.

The NBA has fined three teams an unidentified amount for tampering, including the Hawks, Houston Rockets and one more team which was unidentified. Atlanta sent out an email to fans hoping to sell them tickets by mentioning the possible acquisitions of Dwight Howard and Chris Paul.

Both of the players are still under contract, and the Hawks will now suffer for the email, USA Today reports.

Three NBA teams have been fined for tampering, according to an internal league memo obtained by USA TODAY Sports.

A person familiar with the fine said that one of the teams is the Atlanta Hawks. The person spoke on on the condition of anonymity because the fines haven’t been made public.

The Atlanta Hawks sent a statement to USA TODAY Sports saying: “We fully understand and respect the NBA’s decision.”

Atlanta is reportedly a team that could bring in Howard during the off season, but all reports suggest that the center does not want to play in his hometown. At this point it seems as though the Rockets and Lakers will be the two teams fighting in this year’s edition of the “Dwightmare.”
